City of Surprise
Founded in 1937 by Homer C. Ludden, a Glendale real estate developer
and state legislator, Surprise began as a subdivided square mile parcel
of land with low-cost home sites for the area’s agricultural workers.
Today, Surprise is one of Arizona’s fastest growing cities with a new home completed every three hours. New amenities and businesses include a state-of-the-art Aquatic Center, the Surprise Regional Library, Surprise Stadium and the Spring Training facility, home to the Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers.
